Kayak through the stars ! • Swim in the Fairy Dust!

BIOBAY KAYAK TOUR COMPANIES

SEE NEW VIDEO BELOW!

Las Croabas Lagoon in Fajardo has 500,000 to 700,000 of bioluminescent dinoflagellates ( a plankton) per gallon, so when you wave your hand through the water you trigger so many of them that your hand lights up with a thousand tiny stars. There are many companies that offer kayak trips into the bioluminescent lagoon from the small fishing village of Las Croabas.

The microscopic plankton in the Bioluminescent Bays of Fajardo and Vieques light up when they are touched! Imagine a lagoon full of Tinkerbells fairy dust! Pure magic, the experience is actually indescribable. Legend of the Golden Heron.

Daytime Kayaking into the mangrove canals and to the Biobay.

August 2007. Mosquito-borne disease reaches worst levels in Puerto Rico since the 1994 epidemic. The main route of human infection with Dengue and West Nile virus is through the bite of an infected mosquito. But NOT the mangrove mosquito! The mangrove mosquito does not carry dengue. It is the day biting, aedes egyptii mosquito that caries it. This mosquito is not associated with the mangroves.

The best way to prevent West Nile virus infection is to avoid mosquito bites. Most people do not get sick from the West Nile virus; but for those who do, it can become life threatening. Measures proposed by the CDC:

* When you are outdoors, use insect repellent containing an EPA-registered active ingredient. Follow the directions on the package.

Mangrove Ecosystems on 'Golden Heron'

The above photo was re-created in the computer. I did this to give a feeling of the real experience and I think this accurately represents what you see there. People often exclaim when they kayak with us: " Wow, we thought your picture was unreal but it really is like that!" It's like that on rare occasion on a very clear, completely moonless and cloudless night.

Moon Schedule on 'Golden Heron' • THE NIGHT SYMPHONY OF THE COQUIS.

BE SURE TO CHECK THE MOON SCHEDULE !

The above photo was taken by artist and photographer Doug Myerscough in the Biobay in Vieques. He tells how to photograph the bay.
