Above: The church in Coamo. Coamo was one of the early towns of Puerto Rico. The nearby hot springs are a welcome dip for anyone, young and old. Rest your weary bones! Very restful, very rejuvenating. There is a Parador ( hotel) by the hot springs that is ok. Alledgedly the public springs are closed for remodeling for the year of 2009, perhaps the hotels pool is still open. Construction on the church began in 1661; it has since been judged one of the most important works of religious architecture in Puerto Rico. The delicately curved Baroque facade reflects a major reconstruction completed in 1784. A two-level bell gable with open arches and bells is prominently featured in the facade. The parish of San Blas of Coamo is one of the oldest on the island. |

The Catholic Church in the main plaza in Ponce. Excellent examples of Spanish Colonial architecture. Museums and churches make Ponce a nice evening and overnight stop on any visit to Puerto Rico. Stay around the plaza for a pleasant eveing stroll . . . see the hotels reviews page.. The 'Museum of the History of the City of Ponce' is a favorite because of the restored Art Deco house it is in. |
