Guayama and Coamo Catholic Churches on the plazas.
![]() |
Above: The church in Coamo. Coamo was one of the early towns of Puerto Rico. The nearby hot springs are a welcome dip for anyone, young and old. Rest your weary bones! Very restful, very rejuvenating. There is a Parador ( hotel) by the hot springs that is ok. Construction on the church began in 1661; it has since been judged one of the most important works of religious architecture in Puerto Rico. The delicately curved Baroque facade reflects a major reconstruction completed in 1784. A two-level bell gable with open arches and bells is prominently featured in the facade. The parish of San Blas of Coamo is one of the oldest on the island. Below: The church on the plaza in Guayama, stained glass window. Guayama has a nice 'motel type' hotel that is very clean, well managed and has a nice restaurant too. |

Guayama is a nice place to stop, this church is on a pretty plaza, as well as is a museum that is a beautifully restored house, of the Cautiño family. Now run by the PR Institute of Culture. Lovely furniture and curiosities inside. On the corner is a local cafeteria with terrific lunches. ( 'Universitario ?') |
